Manage your Headaches and Migraines

Headaches and migraines affect many people and can be very debilitating.  It is estimated that 10 to 12 percent of the Australian population suffer from headaches and migraine which costs the country $1.5 billion each year.

Headaches and migraines are a common occurrence but it certainly does not mean its normal, as its the body’s way of telling you there is something wrong.  Migraines are very common among both males and females and symptom relief can often be co- managed through chiropractic management and other treatment methods.

Over the counter pain medication may take the pain away from tension headaches, migraines or cluster headaches but does not correct the underlying cause and can lead to unwanted side effects if taken long term.

Common reasons for headaches or migraine includes:

  • Musculoskeletal reasons eg poor posture (desk, pillow support), stress, tension, cervicogenic (neck), TMJ issues

  • Hormonal

  • Genetics

  • Sinusitis, allergies

When the joints and muscles within cervical complex eg neck, shoulder, jaw region are under tension, this affects the nerves, muscles and blood supply to your head. Most often in headaches, the veins and arteries inside the brain and skull are inflamed, compressed or stretched, which causes pain to be experienced around the head.

Most Australians have had noticeable improvement after receiving chiropractic treatment.  70%  headaches are referred from the neck and improves dramatically when the inflammation reduces.  Chiropractic is a great long term solution that is natural and effective.
